Auto Reframe Video to 9:16

Upload a clip or paste a link. EzClip crops widescreen footage to vertical and keeps the subject in frame the whole way through — no keyframing, no timeline.

Reframing is what stands between a horizontal video and a vertical feed. Going from 16:9 to 9:16 throws away roughly two-thirds of the frame, so the only question that matters is which third you keep — and the answer changes constantly as people lean, gesture, swap seats, or hand over to the other speaker. A fixed centre crop ignores all of that, which is why it so reliably beheads the person talking.

The manual fix is keyframing the crop by hand, shot by shot. EzClip's reframe tool does it automatically: the crop follows the dominant face through each shot and re-centres cleanly on every cut, so the subject stays framed instead of drifting toward the edge. Every short renders at 1080×1920 or better, ready to upload without a second pass.

It's free to try with an account — one short every day, no card. Paid plans lift the daily limit and render clean files without the closing EzClip card.

HOW THE REFRAME TOOL WORKS

01
Bring in your video

Upload an MP4, MOV, AVI or MKV, or paste a link and let EzClip fetch it. Nothing to download first, nothing to install.

Links up to 3 hours · files up to 2 GB
02
Choose your moment

Scrub the timeline and drag the handles to the segment you want. The preview shows the 9:16 crop over your footage as you trim, so you can see what survives.

Up to 2 minutes per short
03
Get a vertical short back

EzClip tracks the subject through the segment and returns a finished 9:16 file — captions burned in if you asked for them.

1080×1920 or better

WHAT EVERY REFRAME INCLUDES

Tracking that follows

The crop moves with the dominant face through each shot and snaps to the new subject at every cut, rather than pinning to one spot and hoping nobody moves.

Full-resolution output

Shorts render at 1080×1920 or better. A 1080p source stays sharp instead of coming back as a soft, upscaled strip of the original.

Captions, burned in

Twenty caption styles with control over position and size. They're rendered into the file, so they survive re-uploads and look the same on every platform.

Blurred background fill

For footage that shouldn't be cropped tight — wide shots, group scenes, screen recordings — keep the full frame and fill the space above and below.

Draw your own layout

When automatic framing isn't what you want, draw the regions yourself on the source frame and they stack into the vertical frame in the order you choose.

Built for streams too

Stream footage gets composed rather than cropped: the corner facecam and the gameplay are found and stacked into one vertical frame, so both stay readable.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED.

How do I reframe a video from 16:9 to 9:16?

Upload the clip or paste a link, trim to the segment you want, and EzClip returns it as a vertical 9:16 file with the subject tracked and centred. There's no timeline work and no keyframing — the crop position is worked out for you, shot by shot.

Is there a free auto reframe tool online?

Yes. EzClip's reframe tool gives you one free short every rolling 24 hours with a free account — no card required. Free renders finish with a short EzClip end card; paid plans remove it and lift the daily limit.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one. Reframing runs real video processing on our machines, so it's tied to an account to keep it sustainable. Signing up takes a moment and costs nothing — no card, and your first short is available straight away.

How long can a reframed short be?

Two minutes per short, on every plan including paid ones. The source can be much longer — links up to three hours — you just pick which two minutes become the short.

What resolution do reframed videos come out at?

1080×1920 or better, which is what TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts expect. See the platform size guide for what each feed does with anything smaller.

Can I reframe someone else's video?

Only with the rights to it — your own uploads, licensed material, or content whose owner has given permission. Re-posting other people's video without it risks copyright strikes and demonetization on every major platform.
