Is Opus Clip Worth It in 2026? An Honest Look at the Pricing Ladder

Alex· Founder, EzClip· July 12, 2026 · Updated September 4, 2026 · 6 min read

Opus Clip (OpusClip, at opus.pro) calls itself the #1 AI video clipping tool and claims 16M+ creators and businesses. If you're deciding whether to pay for it, the marketing site answers "what can it do?" loudly and "what will I actually get for my money?" quietly. This review focuses on the second question.

Everything below comes from OpusClip's own public pricing page and help centre, first checked on July 12, 2026 and re-verified on August 26, 2026. And a disclosure before anything else: we build EzClip, a competing AI clipper. That's exactly why this review sticks to their published numbers — every claim here is checkable against their site.

What Opus Clip genuinely does well

Credit where due — the feature surface is the widest in the category:

  • ClipAnything, their any-genre clipping model, handles vlogs, gaming, sports, interviews, and explainers — not just talking heads.
  • Animated captions in 20+ languages, auto hooks, and emoji/keyword highlighting.
  • Publishing built in: auto-post to YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels, with a full scheduler and multi-profile posting on Pro.
  • AI B-roll (with picture-in-picture and split layouts added in August 2026), voice-overs, speech enhancement, dubbing, and an AI thumbnail generator. Agent Opus, which some write-ups treat as the B-roll engine, is actually a separate product for generating videos from ideas rather than clipping footage — it shares the same credit balance.
  • Imports from 10+ sources (YouTube, Zoom, Twitch, Riverside, Google Drive…) and exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve on Pro.
  • An API and Zapier/MCP integrations for teams building workflows.

If you'll actually use that breadth, OpusClip is a legitimate all-in-one. The question is what using it costs — and that's where the ladder starts.

The free plan: a demo, not a workflow

The free-forever plan gives you 60 credits a month (1 credit = 1 minute of uploaded video). Sounds workable until you read the conditions:

  • Exports carry a watermark. Watermark-free export is unavailable on Free, full stop.
  • Exports and media expire after 3 days. There is no storage on the free plan.
  • No virality score. The AI picks clips but won't tell you how they ranked — scoring starts on paid plans.
  • Reframe is 9:16 only, there's no text/timeline editing, no posting, no scheduler.
  • Support is a Discord AI chat.

New users also get a 7-day Pro trial with 90 minutes of processing and no card required — genuinely useful for evaluating the paid product. But as an ongoing workflow, the free plan is designed to make you feel the ceiling quickly.

The credit system, decoded

Every OpusClip plan meters 1 credit per minute of uploaded source video — upload a 90-minute podcast and 90 credits are gone, regardless of how many clips you keep. Their own FAQ estimates about 15 clips per hour of video, which helps you do the math:

  • Free: 60 credits/month — one hour-long episode.
  • Starter ($15/mo): 150 credits/month — two to three episodes.
  • Pro annual: 3,600 credits granted upfront — flexible, but they expire in 13 months, so unused prepaid minutes are lost.
  • Unused monthly credits roll over for exactly one month, then vanish.

None of this is hidden, but it rewards reading the tooltips. If your source videos are long — streams, podcasts, webinars — the credit meter is the single most important line on the pricing page.

The plan ladder, rung by rung

Starter — $15/mo, monthly only. 150 credits, watermark removed, virality score, captions, auto-posting, and the text/timeline editor. Two catches: as of July 2026 the pricing page listed Starter as monthly-only, and on the August re-check it still showed no annual figure for any tier — so plan on paying monthly here; and storage/exports expire after about 30 days.

Pro — $29/mo, or $174 a year. The pricing page's yearly toggle now shows Pro at $14.50/mo billed annually ($174 for 3,600 credits, available instantly), matching the 50% discount the help centre describes; Starter has no annual option at all. This tier is where the product OpusClip advertises actually lives: the social scheduler, multi-profile posting, moving-object tracking, 1:1 and 16:9 aspect ratios, B-roll powered by Agent Opus, Premiere/DaVinci export, 100GB storage, live chat support, and API access.

Business — custom pricing. 4K download lives here — and only here. So do unlimited seats, trend analysis, SSO, and priority support.

The pattern: each rung holds back something the previous rung makes you want. That's normal SaaS design, but it means the honest comparison price for OpusClip-as-advertised is the Pro tier, not the $15 headline.

So — is Opus Clip worth it?

Worth it if: you want clipping plus publishing plus B-roll and thumbnails in one subscription, you're happy at the $29/mo Pro tier (or prepaying a year for the 50%-cheaper credits their help centre describes), and your monthly source volume fits the credit allowance. As an all-in-one content operation, it's the most complete product in the category.

Questionable if: you just want good clips from long videos. Then you're paying for a scheduler, B-roll, and an agent platform you won't use, and the $15 Starter tier — the "just clips" plan — gives 150 minutes with 30-day expiring storage.

Not worth it if: you were planning to live on the free plan. Watermarked exports that expire in 3 days aren't a workflow; they're a trial without an end date.

When an alternative makes more sense

Four scenarios where we'd point you elsewhere — with the full breakdown in our Opus Clip alternatives comparison:

  1. You process lots of long video on a monthly budget. EzClip (yes, ours) gives you 500 source-minutes for $19.99/mo — about 2.5× OpusClip Starter's minutes per dollar — with the virality score and its reason on every clip rather than as a paid upgrade, no watermark on the video, posting or scheduling straight to TikTok and YouTube, and credit packs that never expire. The trade-off is deliberate: one connected account per platform, and there are no team seats or API.
  2. You clip streams. EzClip's Streaming layout finds your facecam inside the 16:9 capture and composes it with the gameplay — stacked above it or tucked into a corner, with control over how tightly it crops around you — instead of centre-cropping and losing either your reaction or the play. Sources run to 3 hours, so a long session goes in whole.
  3. You need publishing but want simpler tiers. Klap or quso.ai bundle clipping with scheduling at flat monthly quotas.
  4. Your sources are captioned YouTube videos and price is everything. 2short.ai starts at $9.90/mo with no watermarks anywhere — within its structural limits.

You can sanity-check any clipper against your own footage cheaply: EzClip gives new users one free trial clip from a YouTube link with no card, and the reframe tool does one free short a day on a free account, up to two minutes each.

FAQ

Is Opus Clip free?

There's a free-forever plan (60 processing minutes/month), but exports are watermarked, capped at 1080p, and expire after 3 days, and the virality score is excluded. New users get a 7-day Pro trial with 90 minutes of processing, no card required.

How much does Opus Clip cost per month?

Starter is $15/mo (150 credits), monthly only. Pro is $29/mo, or $174 a year ($14.50/mo) with 3,600 credits granted up front — the annual figure now renders on the pricing page under the yearly toggle. Business pricing is custom, and a 1,500-credit Max tier appears in their documentation without appearing on the pricing page at all.

Do Opus Clip credits roll over?

Only for one month. Unused monthly credits expire after the following cycle, and Pro annual's 3,600 upfront credits expire 13 months after purchase.

Does Opus Clip watermark videos?

On the free plan, yes — captions and exports carry a watermark, and watermark-free export is listed as unavailable on Free. Paid plans remove it.
